We all know why we eat. Some of us are emotional eaters. Some
are habitual eaters (snacking while watching TV or reading). Some
of us are compulsive eaters.... We all know why we eat. The problem
is not identifying the problem - we love to identify problems, because when we
sit down to work at identifying it, it feels an awful lot like we are sitting down to do something about it. Deep
down we all know the truth - working at identifying the problem is
not the same thing as making the change we want. Identification
takes intelligence. Making the change takes courage, discipline, and the S word
- sacrifice. Or at least it feels like sacrifice, at first...

Breakfast is the key to healthy eating for the day. Have you ever
woken up in the morning to eat last night's pizza? Or the last chocolate chip
cookie? Or worse - 2 cups of coffee and no food? The problem with breakfast
for most people is the following sentence:
"I'm going to eat less today."
Have you ever said that? If you have, and I think almost everyone has said
that at one time or another, then you have now identified the biggest problem
people face in their daily nutrition change. Eating less for breakfast means two things for sure:

Getting a grip on our dinner planning is so important. I don't know how anyone could possible bring their health under control without being able to plan ahead for dinners - especially in our super-fast-paced world. Don't get discouraged if this seems so complicated, and you don't know where to start! This has all come to me gradually over the years. Remember that we are taking these steps one at a time. You can do it! You and your family deserve good nutritious food.

You need water. I know there is so much information out there that says you don't. I've heard the arguments about fresh squeezed fruit juices and herbal teas, but I'm just not in agreement. I've been doing this too long and seen too many first hand examples of people who have tried to get away without drinking their water, and it just doesn't work. The weight doesn't come off the way they want it too. The energy levels are not there like they were expecting. Dehydration and sleep deprivation are the two things that can put weight loss on a complete hold - even if you're doing everything else right. It's just that simple.

If you are serious about making a lifestyle change, you may wish to put your television in the closet for the next several months and catch up on the news via CBC radio. I doubt you will find anyone on this earth who is more passionate than myself about the absolute waste of time and energy that television is. You need to turn it off.

Is your head forward? Your ears should be directly over top of
your shoulders. Pull your head back and tuck your chin under. You
want the back of your neck (cervical spine) to be straight up and
down, not curved in a big C. If you leave your chin up and pull your
ears back you'll get the C. If you tuck your chin down and pull your
ears back you'll get good posture. It may feel like you suddenly
develop a bit of a double chin, but you'll get used to it - it
doesn't look as funny as you think, and it definately doesn't look as
bad as that terrible rounded back posture we all tend to develop over
time.

It seems like we spend so much of our time wishing. Wishing that
something about us was different. Wishing that something about our
bodies, or our homes, our relationships, or our jobs was different.
So much of what we long for is an expression of this deep inner
longing to be attractive. We want to change something about the
way we look so that we will be more attractive. We long to change
something about our homes because we feel it will make a statement
about our ability to CREATE beauty. In our relationships, we long
not only for love, but for romance. Love makes us feel valuable, but
romance makes us feel beautiful...
